Department of Computer Applications
|
Department of Computer Applications is responsible for conducting Computer
Applications Programmes at JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida. The Department is
conducting the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme with authorized intake of 90
students divided in two sections comprising 45 students each. The Department is having adequate
classrooms with proper seating arrangement and two computer labs with 64 Pentium-IV computers.
One of the computer labs has latest Core2duo PCs working on Windows NT/Linux platform.
Each lab is fully equipped with requisite software and optimally complements the needs of
students and faculty alike. The labs are exemplary in terms of maintenance and upgradability.
Both the labs have Internet connectivity of 8 Mbps Bandwidth.
The labs are supported by qualified Instructor and Assistant.
The Department has achieved excellent results e.g. 100 percent pass
percentage of the current batch (passing out in 2009) in all three
years. Three students have earlier been awarded First & Second rank
in entire Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU).

Faculty
The current faculty strength is 23 including 1 Professor, 1 Assistant Professor, 4 Senior Lecturers,
and 17 Lecturers. The faculty –student ratio is better than AICTE norm of 1:15.
The faculty members are either Post Graduates or enrolled in their postgraduate programmes
like PhD/M.Tech. Faculty members have been also attending the workshops/ short-term courses
e.g. “Recent trends in wired and wireless networking” and “Research Methodology”.
One of the faculty members has also been awarded a certificate as Mentor for
“The Great Mind Challenge-2008” National Software Development Program by IBM.
There are many publications by faculty members. Some of the recent publications are:
• 'Ways And Means of Employing Artificial Intelligence in Open & Distance Learning’, International Conference
on Data Mining, Feb 10-11,2009.
• ‘Feature Extraction of Legacy system through Aspect Oriented Programming’, National Conference ‘INDIACom 2009’,
Feb 26-27, 2009.
• ‘Architecture of Expert System for Open & Distance Learning’
IEEE International Conference on Advance Computing, March 6-7, 2009.
• ’Assessing Performance of WLAN through MATLAB’, under publication in International Journal of Electrical
Engineering Education (IJEEE).

Students
MCA Students have been devoting their final semester entirely for project work which has been
of high quality. One of the recent projects taken up by three MCA students (with an entrepreneur
located in Software Technology Entrepreneur Park within the campus) has converted to a product named
‘Panini’ which offers a means to type in 11 languages of India on the mobile phone. It is also a means
to transliterate between the languages. Extending the Indian language texting technology for English
to a new predictive text technology has also converted to a product called ‘Clever Texting’.
SMS compression is a pioneering effort. The other major projects taken up are at BHEL, WIPRO, Infosys,
ORACLE, HCL, HP, KEAN, TCS, Accenture, MAQ, Mindfire, Tech Mahindra, Induslogic, IBM etc.
One of the most encouraging features of the Department is the nature of interaction of senior students
with the junior running batches which help them in all round development e.g. making them comfortable
for training & placement with various industries (like Induslogic, HCL, CSC, Hewitt, IBM) besides
conducting programming labs in the evening under aegis of Departmental Society aptly named
OPTIMISTS
which has been started last year. The OPTIMISTS Team has won top positions in the Tech fests held at
HBTI Kanpur, and, Thapar University, Patiala. The Society also organized three events during the in-house
Tech Fest Zealicon ’09 inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor, UPTU. MCA Third Year students have also been awarded
certificates for participating in “The Great Mind Challenge-2008” National Software Development Program by
IBM.
